BUILDING and ZONING DEPARTMENT

Individuals planning to build or expand a house or business facility in the City of Reading should contact the building and or zoning department.  The application below shall be filled out for all projects.  The city's Zoning official will review for zoning compliance before any projects  are reviewed by the building department.

Building Permits
In addition to permits being required for new construction and alterations, permits also are needed for other work projects including garages, swimming pools, HVAC units, re-roofing and sign installation. Per city ordinance Permit fees are the same as Hamilton County's permit fees for building department less the surcharge Hamilton County charges.  Fee Schedule 

Three sets of project plans plus a site plan be filed with the city for residential projects and Commercial work requires four sets of project plans plus a site plan be filed with the city.

The city also retains the services of a certified engineer to assist in plan review and approval.
