Reading Youth Services Bureau The Reading Youth Services Bureau has been providing low intensity mental health services to schools and communities since 1974. Reading Youth Services currently provides individual & family mental health and substance abuse support services to the residents of Reading, Blue Ash, and Montgomery, as well as the students enrolled in Reading Community Schools, Sycamore Community Schools, & Archbishop Moeller High School. Because these services are provided through community or school-based contracts, there is no charge to the families receiving services. In addition, community outreach workers also provide educational trainings, peer support groups, crisis intervention, and other community outreach services.
Reading Youth Services also maintains an ongoing substance abuse program called YADEAP – Youth Alcohol & Drug Education & assessment Program. It is a 20-hour weekend class which focuses primarily on educating youth about the dangers of substance use & abuse. The program contains peer discussions, informative videos, group activities, and concludes with a risk screening by a licensed drug and alcohol counselor. The program requires some parental involvement and takes place every 4-6 weeks. YADEAP is open to anyone regardless of their place of residence or school attending. Participants must be 17 years or younger, or 18 if still enrolled in high school. There is a cost of $100.00 associated with this services, and is payable in cash, check, or money order.
Reading Youth Services also holds the Diversion Program for defendants in The City of Reading & Montgomery Mayor’s Court charged with an initial, alcohol-related offense. The program is educational in nature, and provides a screening to determine if continued substance abuse services would be appropriate. Participants are only eligible when determined as such by the clerk of courts for the above-mentioned mayor’s court.
Reading Youth Services also provides a theft program to youth called TIE – Theft Intervention & Education Program. This program is a 3-4 hour educational intervention which discusses the possible causes of theft, contributing factors to illegal behavior, as well as ways to decrease the likelihood of further incidents of theft. This program is open to anyone 18 years or younger regardless of residency or school attended, and costs $40.00
